Staff Software Engineer, Planner Evaluation

Develop and improve metrics for evaluating autonomous driving software performance.

• •Waymo is seeking experienced data-minded software engineers and data scientists to join the Planner Evaluation team.
• •This role focuses on measuring and improving the quality of the software that drives autonomous vehicles.
• •Key Responsibilities Develop signals to measure performance and driving qualities using statistics, math, physics, algorithms, and machine learning.
• •Use simulation and real-world driving logs to measure driving performance.
• •Design and implement methods to connect onboard software changes with simulated outcomes.
• •Analyze data and make recommendations to improve metric quality and interpretability.
• •Requirements BS in Computer Science, Robotics, Statistics, Physics, Math, or another quantitative area. 4-7 years of industry experience in navigating large code bases (C++, Python, SQL), performing statistical analyses, and building data processing pipelines.
• •Strong self-motivation to navigate complex systems and pursue open-ended problems.
